The San Antonio Road Trip
Somehow we can never get home from a trip to San Antonio without driving late into the night. The gas station at I-35 and Hwy 6 in Waco is a very familiar site very late in the night.
When we were dating, we had to drive to San Antonio for a friend's wedding. The next day we splurged and spent the day playing at Schlitterbahn. After a long day in the sun, we were famished and on the spur of the moment Danny suggested we go to the Riverwalk to eat. Young and in love, we disregarded the fact that it was 8 pm and that the Riverwalk was in the OPPOSITE direction of College Station. After a delightful dinner and a romantic walk, we finally hit the road, only to arrive home at the wee hours of the morning. It was torturously exhausting - but it made for a great story.
That was five years ago. Fast forward to last month, and apparently we're making it a five-year tradition to purchase overpriced tickets to a non-chlorinated water park (does that bother anyone else but me?) and eat dinner so late that we are forced to drink gallons of frappaccinos to stay awake on the ride home.
The Guevara's moved to San Antonio several weeks ago. We helped them pack and move and will miss them greatly in our home group - but we are so excited for the things God has planned for them at medical school.
The guys hoisted all kinds of furniture up this very little stairway and the girls unpacked the kitchen.
The next day Danny and I ventured out to play. We enjoyed a day at Schlitterbahn with getting sunburned and dinner at the Gristmill without eating so much steak that our stomachs hurt.
We did not, however, succeed in leaving the Hill Country in time to make it back to Dallas before midnight.
And let's face it folks, we're not as good as we once were.
