Cason's Weeks

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

And just like that the 52 week project is over. I'm simultaneously sad and overjoyed. In no time at all Cason filled out that 18 month, white, Carter's onesie. It happened faster than I thought possible.

Happy Birthday Son!

(same as last week)
Naps: 9:30 am and 1:30 pm

Sleeping:
Sleep is sporadic and interrupted, but he goes down for all his naps and goes down smoothly at night, so I can't complain.

Eating:
In preparation for weaning, we gave Cason whole milk for the first time. As with most foods he gobbled it up.

Babbling up a storm.

Teeth:
(same as last week)
Eight Teeth - four top, four bottom.

Likes:
No new news here.

Nothing new to dislike this week, although I do think he's about as excited as I am to be done with the weekly photo shoot!

Health:
He's a roly poly healthy little one year old!

Events/Milestones:
Cason is scaling the dishwasher lately. He gets one knee up on the open door and would probably crawl on all the way if we didn't stop him.

Cason - Week 51

Stats:
(same as last week)
Weight: 22 lbs+
Height: 28+"

Clothes:
(same as last week)
12-18 months and 18-24 months
Shoes: Size 5

Diapers:

(same as last week)
Cloth: ALL on the LARGEST SETTING!
Disposable: Size 5

Schedule:
(same as last week)
Naps: 9:30 am and 1:30 pm
Night Time: 7:30 pm - 7:00 am

Sleeping:
His morning nap is getting shorter and occurring later in the day. I have a feeling we'll be transitioning to one nap a day in the next few months.

This week Cason's been waking up and crying at 5 am, but going back to sleep soon after. This kid is just an inconsistent sleeper.

Eating:
Cason LOVES raisins, but won't touch craisins. He LOVES frozen green beans (cooked), but hates canned green beans (warmed). He's becoming quite opinionated.

Talking:
(Same as last week)
Babbling up a storm.

Teeth:
(same as last week)
Eight Teeth - four top, four bottom.

Likes:
Nothing new this week.

Dislikes:
A few particular foods are on the dislike list this week (see "Eating").

Health:
We've noticed that Cason has had bad breath lately. I've heard that can be a side effect from teething, but we're not sure what's up.

Cason ran a low-grade fever at the end of the week. He's had no other symptoms of being sick, but fevers never bode well for us.

Events/Milestones:
We started brushing Cason's eight little teeth this week just because it was time to start and in hopes of helping out his crazy breath.

Cason - Week 50

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug
**Just thought I'd show you that these little photo shoots are always smiles and giggles.**

Stats:
(same as last week)
Weight: 22 lbs+
Height: 28+"

Clothes:
12-18 months and 18-24 months
Shoes: Size 5
Cason has worn through his little soft-soled shoes from Babies R Us because he crawled in them so much. So I finally just moved him up to his Size 5 gray Converse shoes.

Diapers:

(same as last week)
Cloth: ALL on the LARGEST SETTING!
Disposable: Size 5

Schedule:
(same as last week)
Naps: 9:30 am and 1:30 pm
Night Time: 7:00 pm - 7:30 am (with one wake up to nurse around 6:00 am)

Sleeping:
It's getting a little bit better every week, although I have feeling that Cason will always be my early riser, the morning person in the family.

Eating:
Nothing new to report in the eating department this week.

Talking:
(Same as last week)
Babbling up a storm.

Teeth:
(same as last week)
Eight Teeth - four top, four bottom.

Likes:
Cason has been very cuddly this week. He's falling asleep while nursing before bed and cuddling in my arms after nursing in the morning. I love it!

He also LOVES the remote control. He will punch the buttons for 10 minutes straight.

Cason's new favorite activity is pulling off his socks and chewing on them - do you think he's teething much? He's especially thrilled if he can pull off one sock before I can even get the second sock on his other foot. It's his favorite game.

Dislikes:
Nothing new to report. He's had a fun little week.

Health:
No health issues this week!

Events/Milestones:
He has started walking while holding our hands and of course it's all he wants to do. He will pull up on our legs and then reach for our fingers.

Cason - Week 49

Stats:
(same as last week)
Weight: 22 lbs+
Height: 28+"

Clothes:
12-18 months and 18-24 months
Shoes: Size 4

Diapers:

(same as last week)
Cloth: ALL on the LARGEST SETTING!
Disposable: Size 5

Schedule:
(same as last week)
Naps: 9:30 am and 1:30 pm
Night Time: 7:00 pm - 7:30 am (with one wake up to nurse around 6:00 am)

Sleeping:
Guess who's been sleeping in to around 7 am this week? WHOOP!

Eating:
Cason is still taking a bottle great (as evidenced when he spent the night with my parents so Danny and I could run the Dallas Half Marathon), but I am not pumping nearly as much as he drinks. His latch must be completely different from the pump or something, because, based on his weight, we've never had a supply issue! I'm worrying less and less and about my freezer stash of milk since we're nursing less throughout the day and getting closer to our goal of nursing for a year.

Talking:
(same as last week)
Still babbling and talking in his own private little language.

Teeth:
(same as last week)
Eight Teeth - four top, four bottom.

Likes:
Cason has liked playing by himself more and more. He's fascinating to watch. He just explores everything. I think his favorite time of day might be the few minutes that he's awake to play before Cannon wakes up from his nap.

Dislikes:
I think Cason hates driving around at night. He's usually great in the car during the day, but a little drive after dark and the kid is a crying mess. I can't tell if it's because he's tired and he refuses to sleep in the car or if it's because in the dark he can't see out and look at anything while we drive by.

Health:
No health issues this week!

Events/Milestones:
Since we had both car seats out of our Jeep this weekend, we decided it was time to upgrade Cason to the convertible car seat. He moved out of the Britax Chaperone (infant carrier) into the Britax Boulevard (still rear facing) that Cannon had been using.

Cason - Week 48

Stats:
Weight: 22 lbs 13 oz
Height: 28+"
The kid is my arm work out for sure!

Clothes:
He's mostly wearing 12-18 months clothing, but I've also pulled out a few 18-24 month outfits for him. And, while I have to roll the cuffs on the pants and shirts usually, it's surprising how well they fit.

Diapers:
(same as last week)
Cloth: ALL on the LARGEST SETTING!
Disposable: Size 5

Schedule:
(same as last week)
Naps: 9:30 am and 1:30 pm
Night Time: 7:00 pm - 7:30 am (with one wake up to nurse around 6:00 am)

Sleeping:
If you skip down to the "health" section you'll see that Cason had an ear infection this week. You can pretty much guarantee he wasn't sleeping good.

Eating:
Cason is down to nursing only three times a day now (first thing when he wakes up, some time around lunch, and then right before bed at night). For a few days in a row he was just fighting me during his middle-of-the-day feedings. He would hear Cannon in the other room and squirm to see him. He wouldn't latch on long enough to get a let down but would just wiggle and giggle and laugh. So, I decided to stop fighting him because it was getting frustrated and just nurse him less. Let the weaning process begin. My baby is growing up.

Talking:
Tons of babbling and mixing consonants  He doesn't just say the same sound over and over and over again, but mixes his sounds until it sounds like he's speaking gibberish.

Teeth:
(same as last week)
Eight Teeth - four top, four bottom.

Likes:
Cason LOVES playing chase. He wants Daddy to chase him and then pull him back by his feet. He'll also crawl fast after Cannon and giggle when Cannon turns around to chase him and the roles are reversed.

He also loves nursing. I think it is his happy place. Sometimes he'll just take a break, look at me and grin from ear to ear, then go back to eating. He makes me smile.

Dislikes:
Nothing new to report here.

Health:
Well, the fever that turned into a runny nose/hoarse throat turned into an infection in his left ear, so off to the doctor we went because I felt like garlic drops, echinachea, and Tylenol weren't cutting it any more.

Events/Milestones:
Again, nothing new here. He's just cruising and babbling and weaning and that's about it.

Cason - Week 47

Stats:
(same as last week)
Weight: over 20 lbs for sure!
Height: 28+"

Clothes:
(same as last week)
12 & 18 months

Diapers:
(same as last week)
Cloth: ALL on the LARGEST SETTING!
Disposable: Size 5

Schedule:
(same as last week)
Naps: 9:30 am and 1:30 pm
Night Time: 7:00 pm - 7:30 am (with one wake up to nurse around 6:00 am)

Sleeping:
Sleep is still going okay. I'm resigning myself to the fact that he is just not going to sleep 12-13 hours at night like Cannon did. Although, I did realize that he takes his morning nap in the crib (in the boys room), his afternoon nap in the pack & play (in the master bedroom) and sleeps at night in the pack & play (in the office), so the little guy is pretty flexible.

Eating:
I know I said I was done recording Cason's new foods, but I just wanted to record that he had tuna for the first time and LOVED it. Granted, it was mixed up in mac & cheese, but still his appetite makes me worried for the teenage years!

I should also make note that Cason is currently eating MORE than Cannon (and Cannon doesn't get milk through nursing three times a day in addition to his meals!). I will often put leftover food from Cannon's plate onto Cason's tray and watch it disappear.

Talking:
I feel like Cason is starting to try to "repeat" what we're saying. He always says dada, mama, nana and baba, but I could have sworn that when I asked him if he was "all done" and said "A DA!" Danny has made the same comment too, that is sounds like he knows what he's saying.

Teeth:
(same as last week)
Eight Teeth - four top, four bottom.

Likes:
Cason's like and dislikes this week revolve around food as he's starting to have preferences on what's put on his plate. He likes fruit, chicken, peas and green beans ALWAYS!

He also LOVES all things small and fidgety. He LOVES Cannon's activity board, the latch on Cannon's bed rail, the zipper on my jacket, the button on my jeans, he's intrigued by them all!

Dislikes:
He's not so fond of all other proteins and veggies, although he will eat carrots occasionally.

Cason also does not like the slide at the park unless I hold him and go slow (or go down with him in my lap).

Health:
Well, that fever he had last week has turned into a sad little hoarse throat and running nose. And Cason was so generous that he shared the crud with Cannon so we're going through lots of tissues over here.

Cason has his first eye appointment with Dr. Patrick through the Infant See program**. His eyes look great with the normal amount of near-sightedness for an infant his age.

**If you are a parent with a child under 12 months and aren't familiar with the Infant See Program, you should check it out. It's a FREE eye exam for any child before their first birthday. There are some eye issues/diseases that can be detected very early, but often children's eyes are not tested until they get to Kindergarten.

Events/Milestones:
This child can scale any steps/stairs at the park and tries desperately to keep up with Cannon. It's a little freaky watching him go up and down without a worry in his brain.

Cason - Week 46

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

Eating:
He's still eating like a champ, but is starting to get a little picky about his foods. See "Dislikes" below! We fed him egg whites for the first time this week, which means I can make everyone scrambled eggs at the same time (no egg yolk only eggs for Cason).

This was also a memorable week in that I stopped recording Cason's new foods. Fitting since I stopped recording Cannon's new foods at Easter and have now stopped recording Cason's new foods at Thanksgiving. He eats everything we eat except nuts and honey. And he drinks water at all meals (no whole milk yet). WAHOO!

Talking:
(same as last week)
Still saying mama, dada and other little babbling (baba, nana, etc.)

Teeth:
(same as last week)
Eight Teeth - four top, four bottom.

Likes:
Not sure I noticed any new "likes" this week.

Dislikes:
Beans! Cason is starting to get picky about his food and it appears that beans are the first on his "I don't eat this" list.

Health:
He starting running a fever (102.8 degrees) on Thanksgiving evening, but has had no other symptoms of illness, so we're hoping it's just a mild little bug.

Events/Milestones:
Cason's blowing kisses, clapping, signing "more" and doing "SO BIG" on command. I forgot how much I love this stage when they start to become interactive.

He hit another big milestone this week when he started cruising on the fireplace and the couch. I'm still wondering if we'll have a walker by his first birthday.

Cason - Week 45

Stats:
(same as last week)
Weight: over 20 lbs for sure!
Height: 28+"

Clothes:
(same as last week)
12 & 18 months

Diapers:
(same as last week)
Cloth: ALL on the LARGEST SETTING!
Disposable: Size 5

Schedule:
(same as last week)
Naps: 9:30 am and 1:30 pm
Night Time: 7:00 pm - 7:30 am (with one wake up to nurse around 6:00 am)

Sleeping:
Guess who's sleeping until 6:30/6:45 am! It's still early but it feels like bliss compared to middle-of-the-night wakings!

Eating:
He's still our super-star eater.

Talking:
The babbling is turning into two-syllable words (dada, mama, nana, baba).

Teeth:
(same as last week)
Eight Teeth - four top, four bottom.

Likes:
Sometimes Cason loves singing/rocking before nap time - he'll bury his head in my chest and hum with me while I sing. Other times he likes to just be laid down - no fuss - he'll lean and stretch and reach towards the crib/pack & play and go down for his nap easy peasy.

Dislikes:
No new dislikes this week.

Health:
Big news this week - at some point over the last few weeks Cason has stopped spitting up! He'll still spit up on the rare occasion, but it's not daily or even weekly, which is huge for my laundry load.

Events/Milestones:
It was a quiet week - nothing new to report.
