Chanel No. 5
If you remember this post (scroll to the bottom) you might just recall that there was this little dog that single-handedly ALMOST made me like her - even though she was four-legged and furry.
However, we can home from our Thanksgiving week of four-wheeling and homemade sushi and never really thought about a dog again . . . until last Thursday.
Danny called me from school, on what was a normal afternoon, to inform me that Chris (his brother) was giving Chanel away. Apparently his lab (a rambunctious puppy) was terrorizing Chanel to pieces.
My heart dropped. Give Chanel away? But she was the only dog in the entire world that I actually liked?!
And then Danny asked the unthinkable question - the question we were sure we already knew the answer to . . . Do you want her?
After a long pause and an intense contemplation of all the grief I would get from my friends depending on my response, I said Yes.
So, for a whole two days we talked ourselves into WHY we had to have Chanel.
- She was small
- She didn't shed much
- She was already caged trained
- She wasn't high maintenance (In Chris' words she's ghetto)
- We had friends/family in the area who would watch her when we travelled (get ready, we might just dump her off at your house one weekend!)
And so on the list went. All of our reasons for not getting a dog were flying right out the window.
While we were making pro/con lists with no cons, we were also laughing - alot!
We must be totally irrational and emotional - we're talking ourselves into getting a dog. We've NEVER wanted a dog, so long as we've been married. We just assumed that we would skip right to the kids and forgo the responsibilities of a dog.
It was decided that we would sit down on Saturday night and run the budget. Surely figuring out the cost of owning Chanel would dissuade us from agreeing to become her owners.
It obviously didn't work. The puppy eats about 5 pieces of Purina, requires a tennis ball for a toy, and doesn't even like a blanket in her cage. How expensive can she be?
And so, within three days we decided to become dog people.Danny's Mom was already in Arizona with Chris, and arrangements were made for her to deliver Chanel on Tuesday.
So here she is. Cute as a button with personality to boot.
