Our Family This Month (January 2011)
The biggest event for our family this month was MOVING DAY! On January 22 home group and DTS friends helped us load and unload the largest Uhaul ever made. In a mere four hours they moved all of our possessions from Dallas to Allen, and we were home.
It's been a whirlwind exhausting month. Packing is no fun, and I became overwhelmed at how much "stuff" we have accumulated. It's been decided that we're going to have a garage sale in the next month or two, which actually made packing worse because we ended up moving all of our "junk" so we could sell it from our new garage/driveway. Oh well.
We are so excited to be in a home, to have our own washer/dryer and clean laundry whenever we want, and to be able to walk into our house without lugging things up and down stairs! It's going to take a while to get unpacked, to get organized and to get settled, but I'm learning to have patience more and more every day.
Danny's commute is a little shorter, but he does get to avoid all freeways. We are minutes from my parents and Matt and Mandy, so that makes for fun spur-of-the-moment get togethers.
Cannon's adjusting well, although he did have one week of fitful sleeping and waking up in the middle of the night. It's amazing how fast you forget about those middle of the night feedings, then when they return you can't believe you did that for weeks on end.
Cannon also had his six month check-up. He weighed in at 17 lbs 13 oz (50%) and measured a whopping 28" (92%) so we're looking at a tall and lean boy.
It took us over a week for AT&T to get an internet connection working in our home and during that time my hard drive crashed. Everything is backed up, it's just inconvenient. So, there won't be any pictures for a little while. Let's just say that it was a much needed disconnect that I never had the discipline to enforce on myself.
I'm toying with the idea of taking a blog hiatus until we get settled into a routine. I'm still taking pictures up a storm, but somehow blogging turned into more of a chore over the last month than an enjoyment. Somewhere along the line I was feeling obligated to blog to the point of spending time on the computer instead of managing our home and playing with our son. So, I might take a few weeks off to refocus. I'll probably still check in to write a monthly family recap and record books I've been reading, and if blogging can fit back into my day without interrupting life I'll resume it.
So, we're still here, just enjoying life in person instead of via the internet. We're getting to know our new home, our new neighborhood, our new running trails, our new schedule and thanking the Lord for a cozy home with a fireplace on cold, blustery days.
