Dallas Date Night #3 - McKinney Ave. Trolley
Life in Dallas is never boring. There's homeless people, there's big buildings, there's crazy drivers, there's even crazier weather, and there's restaurants, hot spots, parks, and entertainment every where you turn.
The adventure is finding stuff that's free or cheap, because Dallas is not a cheap city.
Aside from New York City, I don't know where else to go to see so many Louis Vuitton handbags other than downtown Dallas. People here LOVE to spend money on looking good, living well, and eating fine. Sometimes, for empty-wallet seminary students it's discouraging to find a new place to eat or entertain ourselves that fits our budget.
So, when Danny and I heard about the free trolley that runs through downtown, we knew we had to check it out.
We bundled up (because it was probably 58 degrees out this particular Friday nights and it's been determined that I'm a weather wimp) and headed out to Uptown. We got our Starbuck's fix and enjoyed some catch-up-on-life conversation while we waited for the Trolley.
The Trolley proved to be louder and bumpier than I anticipated, but it was very fun getting to the end of the stop and flipping our seats over to head back the other way.
We rode through Uptown and had some great views of the Dallas skyscrapers. The driver/conductor (I'm not sure what you call the men running the trolleys dressed in cute caps and brass buttoned jackets) would throw out tidbits of information in a dry, sarcastic tone, which added a little flare to the ride.
I didn't take any pictures because it was too dark, but I did lug the camera bag around JUST IN CASE, so I should get extra points. We'd like to go back and take the daylight version and get another conductor, because we've heard there's one that tells great stories and history.
So, this date night will probably be repeated on a nice Saturday afternoon.
(Actual Date Day: 1/18/08)
