As Uncle Rick commented below in his Stiller blog debut, the woman who now lives in the house on Napier Avenue was more than gracious to us.
When we first arrived, we knocked on the front door, but no one answered. So, pictures, video taping, and interviews ensued. We walked around the front yard, took pictures on the front step, explored the driveway (where according to Uncle Rik he use to spend six hours shoveling snow) and took our time viewing the backyard. While all nine of us stood around on the driveway, the back door opened and out stepped a very cautious and curious woman.
Aunt Sally quickly explained that she use to live there when she was little, and before Aunt Sally could finish her sentence, the kind woman who lived there, exclaimed, "Are you the Beimfohrs?"
Shocked, we all paused and looked at one another. "YES!" Aunt Sally replied. "How did you know?"
"Because several years ago I tore down the wood paneling to remodel and underneath were all of your drawings and names written on the wall!"
Sure enough, years ago when Papa Gus had decided to wood panel the living room he had let all of the kids draw on the wall. My mom thought that was the coolest thing ever!
And that is how the Beimfohr's, who had scribbled on the walls of the Napier home so many years ago, came to meet Melanie.
Aunt Sally was so excited!
Melanie was kind enough to let all nine of us traipse through her home (in every room) and visit where Papa Gus and Nana Alice raised their three children.

Laura,
What a great story! How awesome is that!?
We had something similar happen on our trip to Miami, where I grew up. My brother went up to the door and told them who we were (to keep us from getting "shot" for trespassing all over the front yart) - the family who lived there let us in and allowed us to wander all around the house, reminiscing about our growing-up years. Very cool.
Laura - you should be a travel photographer and author!!! This is great!! How about the photos of 'Rik's chair'? Jo and Phil
