Transform

This summer The Village Church held three community service days at Charles Rice Elementary school in South Dallas. The summer-long event was called Transform, and Danny signed up to be co-coordinator/leader. He got to go to meetings, exercise all of his organizational/project management skills he learned while working at CityYear and even carry a walkie-talkie.

I signed up to be a photographer. So, while people were moving dirt, painting handrails and creating mosaics, I was welding a camera. It was the perfect set up.

The next three posts will be pictures from the three days of Transform.

The first Transform kicked off on June 14. The day started with coffee from Crooked tree. And Danny was sporting the bald/beard look.

Look at all the people who showed up to serve!

So many people shared their talents, whether it was designing mosaics, using their landscaping abilities or exercising their carpentry skills.

The dirt digging crew had the hardest job and yet never complained.

Danny explaining the project plan and sporting the Transform hard hat.

Some stubborn walls required determined paint scraping before they were even ready to be paint . . . I told you my job was the easiest.

Tim and Jason are in our Village home group, and Tim was the food coordinator. He made sure we all had Chick-fil-a to each each week.

Danny concentrating very hard trying not to be overwhelmed by all the details.

Some jobs were just a little dirtier than others.

The dirt-moving crew:

Niner, niner, niner . . . 10-4.

The only evidence that I was even at Transform on June 14 - blue paint on the arm from leaning up against a freshly painted wall trying to get the perfect picture. Apparently I have a knack for this.

Kids from the community who attend Charles Rice Elementary even came to help improve their school

Yay Laura! How I've been waiting for these! Thanks dear. It warmed my heart and made me feel a touch closer to home looking at those. I can't wait for the next posts!
