Colt at Eight Months

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug
Dear Colt,

It has been only eight short months since you came into this world and stole all of our hearts. You have a quiet calmness about you that is endearing and lovable. I remember like it was yesterday getting a call in the middle of the night that you were making your debut and we all rushed to meet you. Holding you just after you were born was such a proud uncle moment for me, that I will never forget.

You are blessed to have two older brothers to teach you how to get in and out of trouble and many other important things as you grow up.

Throughout your life I will always be a loyal supporter, cool uncle and true friend.

Love,

Uncle Chris

Colt at Five Months

Sweet Strong Colt,

Five months ago, we welcomed you into our family and our lives.  It was so exciting to be here in Texas and to be present within the first few hours of your life!    When we heard the name mommy & daddy had chosen for you, my first thoughts were "what a strong masculine Texas name".  And in only 5 short months you are already standing tall and pulling yourself up!  It has been amazing watching you grow these past few months.... how bright, alert and active you are!  You should see how your big brothers adore you and run to fuss and care for you on your first little wimper!

Today I was asked to babysit for you .  We played for awhile and then it was time for your nap.
I rocked you in my arms and you gently fell asleep.  I just couldn't put you down!   It was quiet and peaceful while the birds chirped outside in the late morning sun.  As I watched you sleep, the presence of the Lord and His miracle of love filled the room, and  I realized  how very grateful I am to be here with you!
Thank you, Colt, for that very special moment.  I look forward to getting to know you and to sharing more laughter, love and many more special moments together.  You have my heart and know that I am always here for you with a big loving hug .... (and as you get a little older, maybe with a big bowl of ice cream too!)

Love,

Glammy

Colt at Four Months

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMugDear Colt,

If the walls of our home could talk, they would exclaim the joy that was so abundant on the day that you were born, October 22, 2013. Our enthusiasm and happiness to welcome our third grandchild into our world and into our family overflowed our hearts. October 22 will forever be a special day in our family for it is the day of your birth. This day is extra special because it is also the birthday of your great grandfather, my father, Gustav Richard Beimfohr, born on October 22, 1916 as well as the birthday of your great aunt, your father’s aunt, Ann Morse. This is a very special family bond that you share with two wonderful, loving family members.

If the walls of our home could talk, they would tell of all the love that you have added to our home. At four months of age, your eyes look blue, your hair looks blond, and you look very alert and inquisitive. Your ready cute smiles warm Nana’s heart. I can’t help but smile right now as I write this and think of your sweet smiles. Your mother has mastered the art of swaddling a baby with beautiful baby wraps. While the ability to swirl these long wraps to secure a baby eludes my skills, it is a joy to swaddle you with my arms and cuddle you as we rock rhythmically in our rickety rocker. How joyful it is to hold you closely and gently kiss your forehead. The walls of our home would testify that you are greatly loved, little one.

If the walls of our home could talk, they would welcome you into our playroom where your two brothers are eager to show you where their favorite toys are stashed. Someday soon, Cannon will want to show you how to shoot the tiny toy cannons at the army soldiers. I hope we haven’t lost all the tiny cannon balls by then! Misguided cannon balls are often found in mysterious cubbyholes! Cannon will also want to show you all the secret passageways and trap doors in the pyramid. Listen carefully; his vocabulary is expanding quickly to include canopic jars, sarcophagus, vertex, and more. Cason will invite you to color with him on the easel. We update our drawings each season, so in February you would find birthday cakes and candles to celebrate both Nana and Glammy’s birthdays. Also, Cason will offer you a taste of his “cookies” that he bakes in the play oven. Beware; he is just learning to pretend, so he may have already tasted your cookie before handing it to you. Before long you will be joining the boys in the costume closet and dressing as a bunny, dog, fox, or Indian. You may have to arm wrestle Cannon for the blue dog costume that was once Uncle Matthew’s. If you are left-brained dominate, we’ll enjoy playing with old wooden puzzles and building toys. I treasure many happy memories of playing with my children with these same toys, and now I am very blessed to experience this joy once again with my grandchildren. I look forward to many happy times playing together as you grow.

There is no denying that the walls of our home would tell you that Nana loves to read to her children and grandchildren. I still enjoy adding to our book collection, so I look forward to reading and cuddling with you for many years to come. Don’t worry, I won’t run out of reading material, because the library is close to our home. The library is quite modern now, but your mother remembers her childhood days before computers when the card catalog was the search engine. Your mother will faithfully model the love of reading to you for she has been an avid reader since her childhood.

If the walls of our home could talk, they would tell you of God’s faithfulness over our 36 years in this home. They would be a witness that God will always be with you to guide you, to encourage you, strengthen you, and to comfort you through life’s journey. I pray that you will grow to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and I pray for God’s rich blessings on your life, dear Colt.

All my love,

Nana

Colt at Three Months

Colt,

I’m Papa Bill and I have the honor of writing your 3-month birthday letter. It seems like yesterday that Nana and I got the early morning call that you were ready to make your appearance. It was early in the morning and Nana and I rushed to your house to watch your rowdy brothers while you, Mom, and Dad headed to the Allen Birthing Center to take care of business. Only a couple hours later we got another call to bring your brothers to the birthing center to meet you for the first time.

I started the tradition with your brothers of giving Papa nicknames. With Cannon (Boomer) and Cason (Scooter) we were forewarned that they were boys, so nicknames were known before they were born. However with you, we had no such forewarning. So, the Papa nickname had to wait. However soon after you were born and based on your size and weight at birth, I quickly selected “Bruiser”. “Bruiser” only lasted a week or two. After conferring with Mom and Dad we all liked “Gunner”. So, “Gunner” it is.

You’ve been born into an exciting family. With two not-so-much-older brothers you’ve already had to adapt to a busy and energetic household. You’ve had to learn to sleep and stay calm even with a lot of noise and activity. I don’t see this environment changing anytime soon. As you grow up you should be able handle any situation no matter how chaotic. Chaos will feel normal to you. I predict you will make a great Bomb Disposal Expert.

You have wide blue eyes. With all of the activity going on around you, you enjoy sitting or standing, and looking around and taking it all in. You already make eye contact and react to facial expressions by smiling and sticking out your tongue. I enjoy sitting with you and making faces at each other.

With you and your brothers we now have 1/3 of our Little League baseball team. I look forward to playing baseball with you in the front yard. When you’re old enough, your brothers will show you the baseball equipment that we keep behind the front door, ready to use whenever you come for a visit.

Love,

Papa Bill

Colt at One Month

Sweet Baby Boy,

You are very well loved in this house little guy. Every morning when your big brother Cason wakes up he runs through the house calling, "Baby?" When he finds you he cups both your cheeks with his chubby little hands and squeals. It might be the most precious thing ever.

I think I napped with you on my chest every day since you were born. It's our special time. Your brothers go down for their naps and you and settle in with a tv show on the iPad in bed and drift off to dreamland. I never did this with your brothers, not for this long anyways. I think I realize how quickly you won't fit on my chest any more, or sleep on my chest any more, and so I'm trying to savor each and every day that this lasts. Already your little body weighs heavy on me as I breathe, but I love the weight of you. I love your little head tucked under my chin. I love your little hand holding on to the neck of my shirt. I love your little snores and snorts. I love your little feet when they kick sporadically in your sleep and remind me of your strong kicks when you were inside me. I love everything about you.

Your eyes are open more and more these days. They are a beautiful steel gray and sometimes I think you're peering straight into my soul. I pray we love you well Little One. I pray we teach you and discipline you well, but most of all I pray you experience grace and love and joy as our son.

Happy One Month Birthday Baby Colt. I look forward to so many more months and years as your Mommy.

Love you to pieces!

Mama
